Waking with a gasp, Rowan sits up, grasping her chest, coughs racking. Hair falling into her face, she tries to catch her breath, lips blue "Gero... Ger..." breath hitching, she falls back onto her back, arm covering her eyes as she breaks into another fit

"Gero... Ger..."
Hearing Row's voice down below, Gerome slammed the book he was searching through shut and set it aside, standing and moved quickly down the stairs. He listened to the coughs as he moved, pausing at a cluttered table and grabbed a small inhaler, snatching a bottle of water as well as he passed. "You need to sit up, Rowan," he chided quietly, lifting his glasses off of his face as he rounded the corner, knowing her habit. "Laying down increases the weight on your chest. Come on, up up." He walked to the couch she laid on, setting the water on the makeshift table of books and held the inhaler out to her. "This will help ease the fit. But I can't guarantee it'll completely knock it out."

"You need to sit up, Rowan. Laying down increases the weight on your chest. Come on, up up."
Biting her lip, she forces herself to sit up, skin pale, stifles one cough before another hits her, trembles.
"This will help ease the fit. But I can't guarantee it'll completely knock it out."
Looking at him from the corner of her eye, she grits her teeth and knocks it from his hand, hair falling in her face "I don't want it." she whispers, voice a low hiss before it breaks

"I don't want it."
At the gesture, he remained impassive for the most part, studying her before kneeling and picking it up, setting it by the water. "You would rather suffer through another attack?"

"You would rather suffer through another attack?"
"I'm tired of fighting something that's never going to be fixed, Gerome." she whispers, voice cracking as she presses both palms to the side of her head "I know I asked you to help me look for a cure and whatnot, but I hate this. I hate that you're in here day in and day out just to take care of me." breath hitching, burying her face in her knees as she cries "Why don't you just leave me here?"

"I'm not here just to take care of you," he ventured, sitting on the floor with a knee up, arm propped on it and his glass on his head. "I'm also looking for a cure. What if I can find the old medicine that they used to use before the chaos rose? I could not only cure you, but cure countless others suffering. And besides, what kind of person would I be to leave someone suffering alone?" A small smile touched his face. "If I can at least curb the attacks a little, then I'll curb them. But I won't give up on you."

"If there was medicine left, don't you think you would have found it by now?" Rowan asks, small bitter laugh as her hands fall "If you want to cure others, you should go do so."
"And besides, what kind of person would I be to leave someone suffering alone? If I can at least curb the attacks a little, then I'll curb them. But I won't give up on you."
"You'd be a normal one, Gerome. Live your life, find somebody worth it. I wish you would give up on me." she whispers, voice slipping as she turns to look at the wall, hands in her lap "Do you even have any friends? What's the point of taking care of me?" sighing, she closes her eyes a moment, pain flashing across her chest as another attack hits her "I'm going to die Gerome. And honestly?.. I don't want you to be anywhere near here when I do."

Gerome gave a saddened smile, eyes softening. "They're gone," he responded quietly. "I wasn't able to save them in the end." He gave a short mirthless laugh and closed his eyes. "Maybe I'm just being selfish in my endeavors to help you, to ease the pain or build up my hopes that in the end I could save you. But I know I wouldn't trade anything for the chance." His eyes opened again, the green mossy. "Even if you do die, I want to be here. As odd as that sounds." Another low chuckle, and he looked down. "I just want to be there for you, regardless of what may happen."

Eyes widening a bit at his expression, she stiffens at his words, gaze wavering as she watches him "I..." she starts, falling silent as he continues, glances away, fists clutching the sheets, tears hitting the fabric before low laughs pass her lips, devoid of any humor, sound cracking towards the end, jaw setting with a hidden emotion as she forces herself to her feet, unsteady "If I die, i'll hurt you, just like loosing your friends did." she whispers, quiet "You know, I wish I could sympathize with you, but I can't. The whole friend thing." a wistful smirk crosses her face "It never happened for me. All I had in my life before this happened were grey walls, dinners spent alone, and an aunt who died before I was old enough to be a teenager, let alone drive. I don't even remember what it's like to have someone. So." inhaling softly, she meets his gaze "I envy you, Gerome. If nothing else."

"False. You've a friend, someone who cares," he got to his feet, replacing his glasses as they threatened to fall off of his face, his smile still there. "That's why I'm here. And even if it ends as it always has, at least the time was spent in good company."

Stilling, she looks over at him a moment before she snorts softly, steps unsteady as she walks towards the door "A four eyes for a friend and good company. What has this world come to."

"A four eyes for a friend and good company. What has this world come to."
Gerome let out a small groan of complaint. "I've told you, I'm only half blind." Seeing her move towards the door, he frowned, watching. "Where are you going?"

"You still have four, no matter what you say." Rowan murmurs flatly, sighing, swaying as she walks "To get some fresh air, for once. I never leave that forsaken bed, and I'd like to. So here we are."

Gerome moved and grabbed both their coats, taking hers to her. "Then let's go walk. But all I ask is put this on at least. "
