"Sure. Which would you want to hear? Anything in particular?"
"Something I haven't heard in a while..." Rowan murmurs, hesitating "Something classic, but not something boring?"

"Something I haven't heard in a while... Something classic, but not something boring?"
He nodded and pulled out an old mystery and romance, sitting by her as he lowered his glasses, and started to read.

Listening, Rowan slowly relaxes, green eyes growing hazy after a few chapters, small yawn, head resting on his shoulder as she starts to drift off

Gerome continued to read, eyes slipping to her then back to the pages, expression soft.
Timeskip
Gerome hunched over the bucket sitting on a stool in the back room, coughing and struggling to catch his breath. His hands gripped the edges of the bucket knuckles white as he shook and gasped for air, green eyes pained and pinched. He knew the attacks were getting worse, and it was only a matter of time.
He wiped his mouth, black coming away on his hand, and reached for the glass of medicine he had ordered for himself from the herbalist. He quickly downed it, feeling relief for a brief moment before another fit shook him, and he lowered himself to the ground and sat against the wall, waiting for it to subside. He pulled the bucket down and spat in it. "Damn it all," he growled quietly to no one.

"Damn it all,"
Hearing something, Rowan stirs awake silently and sits up, eyesight blurry as she rubs at her eyes, small pause Gerome?... she thinks to herself, biting her lip before she follows the noise. Stopping in the doorway behind him, her gaze widens, sound in the back of her throat, steps back, dropping the book she was bringing to him "No..." she whispers, voice cracking

Hearing footsteps he froze, expression shadowed as he sat the bucket aside, catching his breath as he grabbed his rag and wiped his mouth.
"No..."
"I'll be fine in a moment," he murmured, turning and looking at her, though his eyes were darkened and his smile strained. "It'll pass." He coughed again, a hand pressing against his abdomen as he felt the wheeze and strain in his muscles.

"I'll be fine in a moment. "It'll pass."
Eyes widening, they slowly fill with tears before her face shadows as she walks over and kneels by him, unmoving for a moment before her fist slams into his shoulder weakly "Idiot... You idiot... You know better than to lie to me.." she mutters, quiet, voice level

"Idiot... You idiot... You know better than to lie to me.."
He winced and gave a pained laugh, the attack slowly subsiding. "I couldn't have you worrying about me," he breathed. "You getting better is all that matters. Besides," he took a breath, laying his head back against the wall. "This was just an episode. It'll pass, and I'll be good as new." He grimaced with a quiet groan, his insides twisting again as the medicine struggled to work.

"That's not true!" she whispers, voice cracking, small tremble "And I'll always worry about you. You worry about me, why can't I do the same for you?.." inhaling shakily, she shakes her head at his last statement, trying not to break down "I don't believe you.."

"I don't believe you.."
He reached out and took her hand, the other draped over his stomach. "Sometimes I don't believe myself," he whispered. "But I have to try."After a moment he pushed himself off of the wall slowly, sitting up on his own, face still pale but the fit was subsiding.

"Sometimes I don't believe myself. But I have to try."
Eyes widening at his words, she stills, face slowly shadowing, teeth gritting, still residing in the floor "Please don't leave me alone.." she whispers, voice cracking as she stands "You have to push through this.. We both do.."

"I don't plan on leaving you alone, Rowan," he murmured, letting his hand drop. "Even if it's the last thing I do."

Looking at him slowly, she bites her lip, nodding a little, face twists, stifles a cough

Gerome remained quiet and still, breathing a little ragged, but he slowly recovered and sat up off the wall, running a hand over his face. "How are you feeling?" he asked quietly.

"How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay." Rowan murmurs quickly, stifling another cough, hand gripping the collar of her shirt as she sinks down into her couch, chest burning, face pale
