"Oh I'm sure. And I could have shown you years ago when you were being trained. But would you learned how to make due with what you had? "
His expression changes, and he scrunches his nose as he realizes the man is right. "True, I suppose it was a requirement."
"What would you do if I just decided to jump? If I left the train and took off on foot, out of wariness of you."
Her eyes open and train themselves on his back, studying. "I would run after you, as it's my job to get you to the cape alive," she murmurs, though she pauses a moment. "But if I wasn't tied to a job, I would let you leave. You've a right to be wary, and it's something I expected. Everyone is." Dresden's eyes close again, and a mirthless smile reaches her lips that are covered by the scarf. "I don't exactly have a reputation that keeps people around." Nor do I let them close, she keeps to herself, eyes opening again as she looks at the floor, though this time, her gaze is tired, the stone gone from them.

"True, I suppose it was a requirement."
"Right you are. " he started pulling out materials, a smirk appearing on his face. Taking a tool he started tinkering with the objects to make the car. "Whad'ya say we have a race to see what part gets done first."

"Right you are. Whad'ya say we have a race to see what part gets done first."
First, Adam stares at him, long and hard, hand frozen in place where he was popping another handful of peanuts. Then, he put the peanuts back in the jar and plops down by Ridge, grinning widely as he pulls the materials he needs and a tool and starts to work. "You're on, pops."
"And what would happen to you if I didn't make it to the cape alive?"
"You'll get there alive," she murmurs.
"Why don't you rest?"
Dresden's eyes snap up to him, and after a moment she untucks her chin as she leans her head back against the wall, her piercing and eyes glinting like silver in the dim light. "Rest doesn't help. It's always in my limbs and bones, engraved even. If I sleep, I wake up the same."
Tobe walks through the cars, hand in his pockets as he wanders through the cargo, searching for his box. He pauses as he hears footsteps down the way in the next car, moving on to investigate. Another stowaway? The boy from before? He pulls a knife in case as he nears the door, jerking it open. Though with a start he steps back as he's met by a girl with white hair and a black streak on the bottom layer. At first, he thought of Dresden, though this girl's hair was braided and short, not dreaded in long strips. That, and those green eyes were far more softer than Dresie's stony gaze. "Who are you?"
"I'm looking for the conductor," she murmurs quietly, and seeing that Tobe is armed, she steps back.
Quickly he looks at the knife, then at her, and puts the blade away as he holds a hand out. "Sorry, not for you. I'm just a little jumpy. Why are you looking for the kid?"

"You're on, pops."
Ridge chuckled as he grabbed a hammer and some small nails. His eye flicked to him a moment, studying with a light gaze. He wasn't sure if they boy would be up for it, but it was a guess. Pulling out a toothpick he popped it into his mouth, working quietly. Although he had planned to slow down purposely later on, he was a little competitive. And from the looks of it, the boy had become skilled.

"You'll get there alive," she murmurs.
"You seem so sure." Makai murmurs, studying her, turning to face her fully "Why?"
"Rest doesn't help. It's always in my limbs and bones, engraved even. If I sleep, I wake up the same."
"What's engraved in your bones?" he asks, small frown of confusion crossing his face

As he works, Adam hunches over, studying some of the parts before he starts putting them together, envisioning the finished miniature steam engine, gaze intent like a sculptor eyes his marble and finds the hidden piece. At some point, he ends up with a screw between his teeth, and moves on, engrossed in his work.
"You seem so sure. Why?"
"Because I refuse to let Death win again."
"What's engraved in your bones?"
A small snort that could've passed for a laugh slips past her lips and her head comes up off the wall as she shakes it. "The tiredness." Her eyes close again. "Even if I rest, it doesn't fade."
"Sorry, not for you. I'm just a little jumpy. Why are you looking for the kid?"
"I could've swore I saw a girl get one with a young man and an older one," she explains. "The one with the pale blonde hair, he looked like a friend of mine."
Tobe eyes her, then offers an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, hun. But the guy you're looking for jumped the train some time ago." Her face falls, and immediately Tobe tries to make it better. "But I'm sure if you talk to Gray, she can help you find him after she finishes the job she has."

Once he finished the base, he began working on adding the aluminum neatly. Eyes squinting in concentration at the small model, he flicked them back and forth to make sure he didn't leave a rough piece.

"Because I refuse to let Death win again."
"What has death done to you?" Makai murmurs quietly, resting his hand against the edge of the door, leaning into it
"The tiredness. Even if I rest, it doesn't fade."
"When's the last time you slept?" he murmurs, going to step towards her before yelling out when a rope slips around his neck and yanks him towards the edge, feet scrambling to find purchase as he gets pulled off, hand stretching out to grab something right as he disappears, train still moving

"What has death done to you?" She doesn't respond to the question, though her brows furrow. "When's the last time you slept?"
She opens her mouth to respond, though her eyes snap open as she hears the slipping of a noose and her head shoots up in time to watch as Makai tumbles out of the train. With a sharp curse she leaps to her feet, jerking her knife free from the sheath around her neck as she makes no hesitation leaping from the train, rolling to break the fall in the snow. Rolling into a crouch her head snaps around, searching for a sign of Makai before she starts back tracking down the tracks in a low run, her eyes finding a girl who just made her leap.
"But I'm sure if you talk to Gray, she can help you find him after she finishes the job she has."
Aislin goes to open her mouth before she sees someone in the snow outside the train, coaxing a gasp. "Someone just fell off the train," she says quickly, running and leaping out.
"Wait!" Tobe reaches out, though he stops as he catches Dresden's form, and with a curse he turns and charges down the train, bursting through doors and cars like they were nothing. Finding an e brake in one he jerks on it before continuing to the engine room.
Adam, who was focused intently on his project, starts as he hears the brakes squeal, and immediately he's on his feet and starts turning pressure gauges, whirling as the door slides open loudly, and his head snaps up, finding the info broker. "Broker?"
"Sorry," he gasps, "but this train has to stop and reverse. When you go back, only travel about an eighth of a mile before you stop again, understand me?"
"What's going on?"
"Just do as I say, boy!" Tobe turns and leaps outside, taking off in a swift run, faster than most on foot.

Ridge hears a familiar squeal, planting his feet better as the train skids to an abrupt stop. With a furrowed brow he placed what he was holding into his box. Closing it he stuck it into his backpack.
"Broker?"
"Sorry, but this train has to stop and reverse. When you go back, only travel about an eighth of a mile before you stop again, understand me?"
"What's going on?"
"Just do as I say, boy!"
He frowned watching him run back the way he came. "Damn kids messing with the breaks. " Glancing over he started forward. "Sorry son, I'm going to go see what the ruckus is about. " Slinging the bag over his shoulder, he made his way down the cars to where the others were.

Hitting a drift of snow, Makai falls facefirst into it, groaning softly before his hands shoot up to try and lessen the pull on the rope when it tightens around his neck, pulling him back a few inches into a bush, their tracks covered by fresh flakes within seconds, wind picking up
"Shut it." Drake hisses in his ear, shifting around to press him down into the snow when the man goes to call out, one hand yanking the rope wrapped around him, the other arm pressed to his neck "You've caused more trouble than you're worth!"

"Damn kids messing with the breaks. Sorry son, I'm going to go see what the ruckus is about. "
Adam stares after them as they jump the train, taking a deep breath as he nods. "I'll back her up." He starts putting the train in reverse, eyeing the fog and snow as the weather grew worse, flipping on the lights as the train moves slowly back.
Hearing footsteps rapidly approaching, Aislin stops and whirls around, meeting gazes with Dresden as she runs by, though the smuggler doesn't slow. Only stone meeting moss told of any acknowledgment as Dres passes Aislin. However, once she spots the tree that registered the moment Makai fell she skids to a stop, her image almost blending with her environment. The greys and whites of her clothes melts with the fog and snow as the wind picks up, and her eyes move around the area. She hears shuffling nearby and drops low, listening again as she hears a muffled breath. However, instead of moving towards them head on, she goes around, footsteps silenced by the wind.
Aislin trots after Dresden, having seen where she stopped, though once she reached where the girl once stood, she was nowhere to be seen. She turns about, scanning the area, whirling when someone else runs up behind her.
Tobe slides to a halt by Aislin, eyes searching the snow and the area. "Where did she go?"
"I-I don't know, I saw her stop right here, but before I caught up, she was gone," Aislin answers, and the two stare out into snow a moment.
"She's a natural hunter," he murmurs, turning as he hears Ridge coming off the train. "Stay sharp. I don't think it's just us anymore."
Feeling a familiar feeling in the air as she feels a prick on her forehead, Aislin stiffens sharply and her eyes widen. "No, he's here. He's somewhere nearby." Taking a couple of running steps forward, she cups her hands and shouts over the wind, "Drake! Drake, I know you're out there!"

Struggling, Makai stiffens when Drake puts a knife to his throat, teeth gritting before his leg kicks out when Aislin calls to the man holding him, foot scuffing up a cloud of snow
"No, he's here. He's somewhere nearby. Drake! Drake, I know you're out there!"
"Damn it!" Drake hisses when he sees what Makai just did, tenses at the sound of Aislin's voice before he yanks Makai up, arm around his neck, knife still pressed to his throat "Nobody move, or he dies! Especially you." he hisses, pale eyes finding his guides, tongue tingling

"Damn it! Nobody move, or he dies! Especially you."
Dresden locks gazes with the man, knife poised, the blade to the side as her fist is held in front of her, other hand near her waist as she sits crouched in snow. Her gaze is stone cold as she studies him.
Tobe turns from calling out to Ridge, a slightly panicked look crossing his face as he holds up his hands. "Hey now, kid. This isn't a good idea. You don't know who you're up again." The quickly to Dresden as he sees her hand twitch, pointing at her, "Don't you do it, Gray. Put some thought into your actions before you consider taking one. I shouldn't have to tell you that." He turns and looks back towards Ridge with a worried gaze, murmuring half to himself, "This isn't good. This isn't good at all."
Her hand stills, but her gaze doesn't waver as it remains glued to Drake, stance like a lynx in a forest.
Aislin purses her lips, holding her hands up as she takes a tiny step forward. "Drake, don't do this. This isn't like you."
