Echo watched him, frowning when he didn't have any himself. However, she didn't say a word. Instead, she watched as the pup ate, equal parts fascinated and wary. Both with it and him. Why would a human deny food?

"She needs it more than I do." Spiro murmurs in response to Echo's quizzical look

"She needs it more than I do."
She thought a long moment. "I don't understand," she said after a moment. "Why would you put a creature before yourself?"

"Look at her. She's thin, I can tell she's hungry." he murmurs, tilting his head "Wouldn't you do the same?"

"Look at her. She's thin, I can tell she's hungry. Wouldn't you do the same?"
Echo thought a long moment, brushing her hair back out of her face as for a moment her darker side slipped. "I'd put myself before it." Her eyes widened a little and she looked away, adding quickly, "I'm not sure. I don't understand human morals or way of thought. I only see it as more logical to worry about yourself."

Studying her, Spiro's eyes take in her expression and body language, along with her words, slight nod, thinking "I wouldn't necessarily call the darkness of the soul a force of human morals. You don't have to be mortal to have morals."

"I wouldn't necessarily call the darkness of the soul a force of human morals. You don't have to be mortal to have morals."
She hesitated. "Morals is a concept I don't entirely understand, as I don't see anything as good or bad, or right or wrong," she started quietly. "It's all only grey, only logic." A small smirk touched her lips. "And it doesn't help when you're constantly fighting what was and what is. It just makes everything even more murky." She winced and drew back away from him, avoiding his gaze as she listened to the storm.

"So you see the grey in life? The blurred lines?" he asks, tilting his head as he studies her, eyes taking in the smirk
"And it doesn't help when you're constantly fighting what was and what is. It just makes everything even more murky."
Frowning at the flinch, he purses his lips then moves closer to her, studying "Why try and fight something you can't fix? It just makes it hurt worse." he murmurs, small half smile

"So you see the grey in life? The blurred lines?"
"There are no lines."
"Why try and fight something you can't fix? It just makes it hurt worse."
She gave a small saddened smile. "Because even if I don't understand black and white, I have to live with the sharp distinction, one I'm sure you've noticed by now. And regardless, no one deserves the kind of torture that could come from me, from us."

Frowning at her words, he studies her, lips pursed in thought a moment before he speaks "What do you mean, torture?"

"What do you mean, torture?"
Echo looked down. "Taunts, lies, false dreams and hopes. Being toyed with-- there's honestly too much that could be considered as such." Another moment's hesitation, and she felt her stomach twist. "I don't want to hurt others unless it's something that is necessary, something that is logically needed. But sometimes that urge arises, and it frightens me." She looked at him, pale gray eyes wary.

"No. No, I do not wish to."
"Then I do not believe you to be the person you say you are. A liar, one who inflicts pain on others needlessly."

Her expression grew darker and she responded lowly with, "Who I am depends on the time of day, boy."
