She gave a quiet, mirthless laugh. "And this one can't swim." She looked down, running a hand through her hair and propping her head on her hand, elbow on her knee. "So, looks like we're stuck together."

Charlie gave a empty laugh at her statement. "Seems that way." He put a hand over his eyes, feeling dizzy a moment.

Her smile faded as she watched him closely. Why had she come in and stayed? She remembered what Garcia had told her, that they could both help, but she wasn't so sure about that. Especially Charlie. He had his own problems and didn't need hers too. He was already in rough shape. Tae looked away, conflicted.

Charlie reached forward, his hand finding the glass. His fingers pushed it an inch but wrapped around it as if it didn't happen. Taking a drink he exhaled afterwards.

Charlie froze a moment, remembering the last time someone asked him that. "You already are. " he looks at her. It meant enough to have some company. After a moment he gave a nostalgic smile. "The only other person who has ever asked me that is Garcia. And that was when I was a boy."

She raised her gaze to him, surprised as she listened. "I...I don't understand," she murmured. "Wouldn't your wife had asked the same thing...? Or the kids..?"

"They don't know. They.. can't know. " he placed a hand on his eyes. He didn't want to lie to her. After a few moments of silence he spoke again. "I don't have a wife...and they aren't my kids. Not truly." If they were, the spiders on his back would only have only bitten him harder.

Charlie takes a breath before continuing. " Our parents were out of the picture too soon. When she was a junior in school, she had Raina. Geoffry came a few years later by someone else who was obsessed with her. It was just easier to tell the world a lie. "he frowned as he spoke. "She needed a loophole and the kids needed a father."

The news struck a chord, though she tried to hide it and shove it away, as it brought things to mind that she didn't want to think about, to remember. But still, her thoughts drifted towards the photograph and she looked down, still trying to force an understanding smile. "Things happen for a reason," she murmured, voice cracking just a little.
